Reiki Masters Phyllis Kates and Frank Thompson are Reiki Masters in the lineage of John Harvey Gray. They share the same teaching philosophy; both trained with Suzanne Parnell at the Ajna Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas; and are among the founders of the Traditional Reiki Institute, Inc. (TRI). Frank serves as President.

Phyllis J. Kates M.A., RM
Before moving to Arkansas in 1993, Phyllis taught communication classes at Purdue University, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She has more than 20 years experience as an educator and writer. Phyllis is as case manager for clients and a trainer of case managers for TRI practitioners. Phyllis' husband, Don is a Second Degree Reiki practitioner, and their son David who lives in Georgia, recently became a Second Degree Reiki practitioner.
Believing that you must heal yourself before healing others, her classes emphasize the self-healing aspects of Reiki, in addition to teaching students how to give treatments to others.

Frank R. Thompson RN, CRRN, BSN, RM
Frank is an RN with 25 years of experience, including Psychiatric, Orthopedic, Cardiology, Rehab Nursing, and Case Management. He is currently Clinical Educator at Select Specialty Hospital. He brings to his Reiki practice a deep understanding of medical procedure, the needs of patients, and the effective use of Reiki in working with patients hands-on. Frank lives and works in the Tulsa metropolitan area. Frank studied nursing at Rogers State College in Claremore, Oklahoma. He holds national certification as a certified rehabilitation RN for 8 years. Frank has been a resident of Tulsa for 25 years.
His philosophy is that self-healing is the most important part of Reiki. The age-old adage, "Healer heal thyself" is uppermost in his mind.

Completion Requirements For AHNA CNE Hours in First Degree Reiki through Traditional Reiki Institute
To complete First Degree Reiki training, participants wishing to receive AHNA CE hours must:
- Attend all segments of the class for which they have registered;
- Receive the four (4) attunements necessary to open Reiki
in the hands of practitioners in strict Traditional lineages of Reiki;
- Practice locating the aura and chakras on others during class;
- Practice giving Reiki hands-on in class using the hand positions
that are part of Traditional Reiki training.
By the end of training in First Degree Reiki, Nurses receiving AHNA CE hours through the Traditional Reiki Institute must be able to: .
- Explain the fundamentals of Reiki energy as it relates to healing in
general and to their nursing practice;
- Demonstrate hands-on positions used in the Gray lineage for Reiki
treatments on self as well as on clients/patients;
- Use Reiki healing energy to assist others in their healing;

For AHNA CNE Hours in Second Degree Reiki through Traditional Reiki Institute
To complete Second Degree Reiki training, participants wishing to receive AHNA CE hours must:
- Attend all segments of the class for which they have registered;
- Receive the two (2) attunements necessary to open the advanced energies
of Reiki in the hands of practitioners in strict Traditional lineages of Reiki;
- Practice using the Extensions of Reiki, including the
mental/emotional techniques and distance healing during class;
By the end of training in Second Degree Reiki, Nurses receiving AHNA CE hours through the Traditional Reiki Institute must be able to:
- Demonstrate how to utilize the 3 extensions of Second Degree Reiki
(increased energy, mental/emotional, distant healing) as it relates to healing and to their nursing practice;
- Demonstrate hands-on positions used in the Gray lineage
for Advanced Reiki treatments on self as well as clients/patients.
- Use Advanced Reiki healing energy to assist others in their healing;
- Use Advanced Reiki healing energy to help heal themselves.
